Eric Tinkler’s reign as the head coach of Orlando Pirates started with the Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs in December last year.
It was after the club confirmed the resignation of Vladimir Vermezovic from the position of head coach that the former Bafana Bafana midfield strongman was given the task of leading the Soweto giants.
Tinkler and Teboho Moloi had been assistants to Vermezovic prior to the Serbian’s departure from the club. Initially, Tinkler was the caretaker coach at Pirates.
He was later handed the job on a permanent basis in May this year, having guided the side to their fourth place finish in their PSL campaign of the 2014/15 season.
Tinkler’s first game in charge of Pirates was the 2-0 loss against Chiefs on December 06. Following a disappointing start to the 2015/16 season, the Siya crew take a look at Tinkler’s overall record in charge of Pirates’ technical bench.
In their 2014/15 season under Tinkler, Pirates won eight, drew eight and lost two in 18 league games. The team was knocked out in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup.
In the 2015/16 season, The Buccaneers have had their worst start ever in the PSL with just five points collected by the side from a possible 21. The team was knocked out of the MTN8 by eventual winners, Ajax Cape Town, in the quarter-finals.
However, in his defence Tinkler can boast that Pirates are in the semi-finals of the Telkom Knockout, following impressive wins against University of Pretoria and Maritzburg United.
