Pitso Explains Speedy Zakri Permit

Pitso Mosimane says that the PSL had a hand in helping Yannick Zakri finalise his work permit in less than a week after naming him on the bench this weekend.
Despite ASEC Mimosas only confirming Zakri’s move to Sundowns on Thursday, the Ivorian forward was in Mamelodi Sundowns’ matchday squad on Sunday afternoon, even though Masandawana were yet to officially announce his arrival.
The 25-year-old didn’t make his debut during the 3-1 win over SuperSport United in the MTN8, however, he is expected to feature at some stage next month once the international break is over.
In the past it has taken numerous weeks for players to acquire work permits for their foreign players, thought it appears that the PSL’s talks with Home Affairs have paid off with regards to speeding up the process.
Speaking to the media about the speed of his permit acquisition, Mosimane said, “We do what other people do, we follow the directions. I understand the league had a meeting with Home Affairs, and they have helped us, so that’s why we got Zakri.”
Meanwhile, when asked about the importance of signing a player of Zakri’s quality, Mosimane said, “He’s very important for us, especially now Leo (Castro) is out. On the bench today we didn’t have a striker. He’s a striker, but also a winger. He’s powerful and I’m excited to see what he can do. I hope he can score the goals he scored in the Champions League, that tournament has opened doors for us to see Africa and see good players.”
According to, Zakri’s transfer to Sundowns was worth around R4.7m.
