The PSL haven’t agreed to a match ball sponsorship with Mitre, despite the fact that the league has been using their balls in recent weeks.
Several players, such as Daine Klate, have called for a standardised match ball in the Absa Premiership and PSL cup competitions in recent years, and while the current situation hasn’t gone that far, the fact that all the competitions will be using Mitre is a step forward.
PSL spokesman, Lux September, explained that the PSL have bought a number of Mitre footballs to be used in official games for the time being, but that it is not a sponsorship by the British company.
September told the Siya crew, "The contract with our technical ball sponsor ended... We don't have a ball sponsor and therefore we decided to purchase soccer balls for the interim."
Domestic football will get back underway this week after the past weekend’s games were postponed following Bafana Bafana’s late return to South Africa from Central America.
