Thidiela/Referee Intimidation & Threats Saga Referred To Prosecutor

The matter involving Black Leopards chairman David Thidiela and referee Victor Hlungwani has been referred to a prosecutor for urgent attention. 

Thidiela allegedly made nasty utterances to Hlungwani, following Leopards 1-0 loss to Bloemfontein Celtic at the Thohoyandou Stadium last Sunday.

During the National Soccer League’s Board of Governors meeting in Kempton Park earlier today, the incident was one of the matters on the agenda. 

Furthermore, the issue of the implications of a sponsorship agreement entered into between SAFA and OUTsurance to sponsor match officials was also discussed, as confirmed by the league.

The PSL has issued a statement confirming the latest developments: 

PSL Statement following Board of Governor’s Meeting

The National Soccer League (NSL) Board of Governors met in Kempton Park, today 20 September 2018. 

The Board of Governors discussed, amongst other matters, the implications of sponsorship agreement entered into between SAFA and Outsurance to sponsor match officials. 

The NSL is of the view that the sponsorship infringes on the rights of NSL sponsors. The Board of Governors mandated the Executive Committee to seek legal advice on the matter and to take all steps as may be necessary to resolve the matter.

The Board of Governors also discussed the matter relating to the alleged utterances which appear to have been made by Black Leopards FC Chairman, Mr David Thidiela.

The Board of Governors referred the matter to the League’s Prosecutor, Mr Nande Becker for urgent attention.

In the interim, the Board of Governors resolved to place Mr Thidiela on precautionary suspension from the PSL Executive Committee until the matter is resolved.
