Today Wits announced that they have appointed former SuperSport United head coach, Gavin Hunt, as the man that would lead their side next season.
The news comes as no surprise to Mzansi’s football fans, with the speculation surrounding the possible move being well publicised in the past few months.
However, with the rumours now confirmed, the Siya crew looked into Hunt’s credentials and what he has achieved in his career so far.
After retiring from football due to an Achilles injury in the 90’s, Hunt went straight into coaching Cape Town-based team, Seven Stars, leading them to the First Division Coastal Stream title in 1998.
From there, he went on to coach Hellenic, then Black Leopards, where he won Coach of the Year in 2002, before heading to Moroka Swallows for five years, claiming an ABSA Cup victory in 2004.
It was in 2007 that Hunt’s glory years began after he joined SuperSport, going on to win three consecutive PSL titles with the club in 2008, 2009 and 2010, claiming the Coach of the Year award in the same years.
Last season saw Hunt win his final trophy with Matsatsantsa, the Nedbank Cup, a feat that he couldn’t repeat this year as his side lost in the final to Kaizer Chiefs.
Now the new Clever Boys coach will be eager to get back to work and back amongst the trophies with his new club, once he begins work next season.
