The Latest On Sukazi And Celtic…

The Siya crew previously reported that there have been several offers made for Bloemfontein Celtic’s Absa Premiership status, with TS Galaxy owner Tim Sukazi leading the race to buy the club.

Current Celtic owner Max Tshabalala has been keen to sell Phunya Sele Sele for some time now, but potential buyers have often walked out of the deal at the last minute – their vocal supporters have also been against the sale.

Sukazi, the owner and chairman of TS Galaxy, has confirmed to the Siya crew that he has secured an agreement to purchase the club, and only needed to fulfil the conditions of the agreement.

The latest is that instead of going ahead with the purchase, Sukazi has given potential buyers a fair opportunity to make a bid for the club’s status, with the likes of Bloemfontein-born businessman Lebogang Mokoena said to be interested in taking over the Mangaung outfit.

Sukazi revealed that he has given ‘reasonable time’ for someone from the Free State to rescue to the club and keep its base in Bloemfontein and would be happy to purchase it and relocate it to the Mpumalanga province if no such offer does arise.

“There are people who are busy with it as we speak, once we submit financial disclosure to the club on the deal, there’s nothing else left to do but to file an application to the league. Upon consideration of the rescue mission from the Free State, I stopped my bank from processing the funds. I said let us be fair and give everyone an opportunity. We haven’t submitted our financials as yet and there have been high level interactions between counter parties on the deal. We want it to be a fair process.

“From my side we were ready but we took the decision (not to submit) because you rather give the people from the Free State a chance. If they get this club, then I’m happy that our offer has brought about a reputable businessman to rescue the club and keep it in the province,” Sukazi told the Siya crew.

It is believed that Mokoena, who runs Mkoena group, a successful logistics business in KwaZulu-Natal is keen on keeping his hometown club in his place of birth, however, it remains to be seen if the 53-year-old makes a suitable offer for the club.

It was previously reported that Mokoena was interested in sponsoring the cash-strapped club with a figure of R38 million over three years, but is now believed to be interested in purchasing the club altogether.
