President Ramaphosa rejects request to lift liquor ban
The letter from the State Attorney, in response to the Gauteng Liquor Forum, which argued that the alcohol ban not only falls outside the scope of the Disaster Management Act but has failed to meet its aims, namely stopping the spread of the new coronavirus, said:
"The sale and consumption of alcohol also has proven links to an increase in violent crime, motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies and results in full emergency rooms and hospitals."
