Three-Horse Race: Chiefs Out, Wits Lead The Pack
With Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United now officially out of the running, the race for the 2016/17 Absa Premiership title now consists of just three teams.
Bidvest Wits are the club currently leading the way with a three-point lead over second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, while Cape Town City remains in contention for now, as they sit two points behind Masandawana.
If all three clubs win their remaining games the league will end with Wits on 66 points, ‘Downs on 63 and City on 61, although there are some tricky games ahead as the league reaches its climax.
City’s hopes could be all but dashed this evening if they lose to SuperSport United, a team unbeaten in five games, while the Clever Boys face a difficult trip to Free State Stars on Wednesday before ending the season against Kaizer Chiefs.
Sundowns probably have the easiest of runs on paper, however, Fadlu Davids’ Maritzburg United proved to be a tough nut to crack.
