On Wednesday it was confirmed who would – and who wouldn’t – be playing in the Absa Premiership as the league’s 16th team, with the remainder of the play-offs being nullified.

Maritzburg United beat Royal Eagles 2-0 thanks to goals from Siphesihle Ndlovu and Thabiso Kutumela at the Chatsworth Stadium as they won three games on the bounce for the first time in a year and secured their third win in the Premier Soccer League’s promotion play-offs.
Eric Tinkler’s side needed just a draw to secure their status in South Africa’s top-flight next season, however went above and beyond the call of duty as they picked up maximum points in order to make it nine points from nine and secure their spot in the 2019/20 Absa Premiership with one game to go.
Tinkler has overseen a big upturn in fortunes for the club since coming in to replace Muhsin Ertugral, and is delighted with the commitment that his troops have shown since he came on board.
As quoted by the club’s official Twitter account, the head coach mused, “I'm very, very proud of the players, the technical staff, the chairman, the fans. The fans have been absolutely phenomenal…
“You know you wish you would see more clubs in the PSL with a fan base like this club, hence this club doesn't deserve to go down."
Maritzburg still have to face Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in their final play-off game, however it will now be a dead rubber as neither TTM nor Eagles can catch the Team of Choice.
