SuperSport United striker Thamsanqa Gabuza has revealed why Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is turning out to be his lucky charm.
Earlier this year, the Belgian coach, who is all too familiar with the striker from his days with Bafana Bafana whilst the coach of Cameroon, heaped praise on the 34-year-old following his bright start to the 2021/22 DStv Premiership campaign.
“I saw the great guy [Thamsanqa] Gabuza. I was told it was the Gabuza from four, five years ago, I remember him when I played with Cameroon against South Africa, he was a very good striker and he showed it again by scoring a goal," Broos said of Gabuza at the time.
Now, the striker who has netted five goals in 10 matches for Matsatsantsa has referred to the coach as a good omen with most of his strikes coming when Broos attended Matsatsantsa’s matches.
“ I know that guy [from] a long time ago, playing against Cameroon, he was the national team coach. He’s a good coach and I am glad that when he is there at the stadium, I am scoring every time. I wish he can come every time I play, which means he is my lucky (charm),” Gabuza told the Siya crew.
Gabuza is currently fourth on the Golden Boot standings behind Peter Shalulile (8),Victor Letsoalo (6) and Keagan Dolly (5).
