Did A Goal Save Gabuza’s Bucs Career?

Thamsanqa Gabuza Could Retain His Place In Orlando Pirates Squad

By Soccer Laduma - May 31, 2018 03:25 PM

The goal scored by Thamsanqa Gabuza in Orlando Pirates’ last game of the season might have gone a long way to saving his career at the club if recent media reports are anything to go by.

Gabuza has been strongly linked with an exit from Pirates, due to his lack of enough game-time under coach Milutin Sredojevic this past season.

However, reports indicate that the striker might be retained to continue playing for the team in the new season.

According to a report in the City Press, Bucs chairman has pointed out that Gabuza will be staying put.

In the last game of the 2017/18 season for Pirates – against Free State Stars – Gabuza scored the winning goal as Sredojevic’s side finished the campaign in second place on the PSL log behind Mamelodi Sundowns, and with a qualification for the CAF Champions League.

Gabuza finished the season with 10 league starts and four goals.

Former Pirates striker Andries Sebola explains why Gabuza should be kept in Sredojevic’s squad for next season.

“He must stay to create competition for the strikers’ position. If you can see those guys – the two Zambians (Justin Shonga and Augustine Mulenga) – came and have been doing the job up front. They are under pressure,” Sebola told the Siya crew.

“If the boy (Gabuza) can go, there won’t be any competition. They have the same height and same style of play. He (Gabuza) and Shonga are more or less the same because they can hold the ball. This other one (Mulenga) can dribble past defenders, and he can score goals. It will help to keep him (Gabuza) as they will also be going to Africa, they will need more depth. Playing in the PSL and with all the cup competitions, as well as playing in Africa will need more players because of all the suspensions that will be there,” said the former striker.

Even if he scored five in that game he will never be a good striker for Pirates, the team almost relegated because of him & his friends, a striker supposed to be judged by the number of goals & assists not by one goal against the team that was busy preparing for final

That goal was a tap in, there was no brilliance, in fact considering his reputation, I thought he would miss, he cannot be trusted, that goal cannot save his career at bucs, he is not productive. If were not that micho benched him, we would be in the same predicament as Ajax.

Sebola, Since Gabuza Played For Pirates, How Many goals And Assists Does He Have? How Many Trophies Did He Help Pirates Win? If It Wasnt For Him In The First Half Of The Season, Pirates Would Have Won The League.

Sebola is off the point. there are no similarities between Shonga and Gabuza. Shonga is quicker, can shoot accurately, play one two and dribble. gabuza can do none off those.
