Thabo ‘Jomo’ Rakhale is expected to join a new club for next season after parting ways with Chippa United.
Rakhale’s future has been subject of speculation over the last few weeks, with indications that Kaizer Chiefs had been monitoring his contract situation, and it has since been confirmed that the former Orlando Pirates winger has parted ways with the Eastern Cape club.
While the Chilli Boys have been keen on keeping Rakhale by extending his contract, the club’s chairman Siviwe Mpengesi hinted earlier in the season that their contract talks with the skilful player broke down after he rejected their contract offer.
The 30-year-old Vanderbijlpark-born player’s deal in the Nelson Mandela Bay expired on June 30.
“Thabo Rakhale's contract has expired. We can confirm the club and Thabo have amicably decided to part ways. The club would like to thank Thabo “Jomo” Rakhale for his service at the club for the past 3 years, he will surely be remembered. Wish him well on his future endeavors,” Chippa stated in their statement.
Siya sources have confirmed that the player’s representatives are working around the clock to get him his next deal, although the prolonged PSL break due to the COVID-19 could result in some delays.
