Ajax Cape Town’s Thabo Mosadi was asked about his opinion on showboating with reference to Mamelodi Sundowns’ Percy Tau.
During the Brazilians 6-0 thumping of Orlando Pirates, the 22-year-old star was seeing showing off some skills which his head coach, Pitso Mosimane, was not impressed by.
Mosimane then immediately instructed Tau to stop what he was doing, despite the Chloorkop-based club already securing their three points on the day.
Speaking in this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma, Ajax’s Mosadi;’s opinion on whether he regards showing off skill as showboating.
“No, I don’t see it that way. As South African footballers, it’s what we grew up doing, so I don’t understand why we have to stop it when we reach the professional level. This is South Africa and we should do our own thing. In other countries, they do their own things and we tend to copy that. Why can’t those countries accept what we do?” Mosadi told Soccer Laduma.
When asked about Mosimane stopping Tau from showboating, he said,” If your coach doesn’t like you doing that, then don’t do it. Don’t disrespect a coach like that. But if he allows you to do it, then do it because that is what we South Africans do better. If you get a coach that embraces that, then do it. If not, then be professional, respect the coach and don’t do it.”
