Orlando Pirates defender, Thabo Matlaba, has urged supporters to be patient with coach, Eric Tinkler, as ‘he’s up to something.’
Tinkler has guided the Buccaneers to the final of the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in the club's history and will be hoping to add the trophy to club's cabinet by beating Etoile du Sahel in the final.
Despite his success in the continental competition, there are certain Bucs supporters that are not convinced by the coach as he continues to struggle in the league, with his side picking up only five points in their opening five games and sitting 11th on the log.
Matlaba has moved to defend his coach and has asked fans to be patient and give Tinkler time to get back to winning ways.
“This guy (Tinkler) does everything right. People must just be patient with Coach Eric because he’s up to something,” Matlaba told Soccer Laduma.
“We were just unlucky in some of our games in the league, but that doesn’t mean people must put him under pressure. Obviously Pirates is a big club and, whenever you lose or draw three games in a row, it becomes a serious problem and puts everyone under pressure.
“We all know that, but I can promise our supporters that lo mjita (this guy) is working very hard to get us back to winning ways.
“I was happy our supporters cheered him on at the airport when we returned from Egypt. He has been stressing the importance of being focused on our domestic campaign as much as we are on the CAF competitions.”
Do you think that Pirates should hang on to Tinkler if he wins the Confed Cup? Can he lead Bucs to the league trophy this season?
