‘Freak Accident’ Ruins Pirates Star's Season
Thabiso Kutumela's 'Freak Accident' At Orlando Pirates
Orlando Pirates attacker, Thabiso Kutumela, has been ruled out for the season after sustaining a knee injury in what has been described as a ‘freak accident’.
It was confirmed last week that the 24-year-old faced around three to six months out due to his injury, although the club did not give the details of his ailment at the time.
Now, after a press conference at Rand Stadium this week, it has been confirmed that the attacker has gone for an operation on his knee and will not play again for the Buccaneers this season.
The club’s assistant coach, Rulani Mokwena, told the media, “Our biggest injury is to Thabiso Kutumela. He was involved in what we would call a ‘freak accident’ in our training session last week. He’s gone for an operation on his knee, something very similar to what Sifiso Myeni went through.
“So with Kutumela, you can probably rule him out for the rest of the season. It’s unfortunate because he was really playing well, and it’s an unfortunate loss for us. I heard some players saying that they dedicated the Chippa result to Thabiso.”
Pirates face their bitter rivals, Kaizer Chiefs, on Saturday as the two battle to close the gap on Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the Absa Premiership table.
