A defender, who previously played for the likes of Free State Stars, Bloemfontein Celtic and Maritzburg United in the PSL, has his move to Spain confirmed.
Spanish club CD Almunecar City has confirmed signing Thabang Matuka on a one-year deal to add him to the team's relatively young squad.
Matuka played for Witbank Spurs in the National First Division last season, before the team's relegation to the ABC Motsepe League at the end of the campaign.
“Great signing! The CD Almuñecar City is pleased to announce the signing of the highly qualified South African defender Thabang Matuka in a one-year contract,” the Spanish club confirmed on their official Facebook account.
“Matuka, a 28-year-old left defender, brings great experience to our young team and has 13 caps in U20 and U23 teams for South Africa, respectively,” confirmed the club. (translated and edited)
City’s coach, George Jermy, lauded the signing of the Bloemfontein-born player by the club.
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Thabang to CD Almuñecar City. He is a player that we have followed for a while, and we are eager to see the qualities and leadership that he can bring to the team,” said the coach, as quoted on the club’s Facebook account.
