Teko: We Should Win The League Next Season!

Teko Modise, who has since retired from professional football, is confident that Cape Town City are capable of going all the way to win the league next season.

Up until arguably their win against Chippa United in their fourth last league game of the Absa Premiership, City were part of the title race, which at the time included the champions Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits.

However, the Citizens finished the league campaign at fourth place on the league standings, 11 points away from Sundowns, who won four games on the trot after their loss to SuperSport United.

Although, with City expected to continue on their hunt for more silverware in the new season, Modise is confident that the Mother City-based club could go all the way to the finish line in the new Absa Premiership campaign.

“We should win the league next season, if not then it would be an injustice because the past three years we have been in the top four and we are not a team that plays to be in the top eight,” Modise told the media after confirming himself his official retirement from football.

“We realise it if we won two or three (more) games we could have won the league easily, this is the second time, even last season we had the opportunity to win the league so…

“I think now we know the feeling of not winning the league, how it feels and I think we have an opportunity next season to step up and the only way to step up is to win the league, we can’t be happy with number two or number 3, it doesn’t mean anything.

“We just need to win the league and now that we realise what the formula is, I think next season we are going to implement it and stick to the plan, hopefully add one or two trophies, because we play good football but we need to back it up with the trophies,” he added.
