Mamelodi Sundowns' fan favourite, Teko Modise, has revealed that he is enjoying his game once again.
The central midfielder has been in scintillating form for the Brazilians, and scored the winning goal against Polokwane City on the weekend. He has been one of the key players in Pitso Mosimane’s squad as they look to give league leaders Kaizer Chiefs a run for their money in the title race.
With eight games remaining, only three points separate the two sides, with Chiefs having played a game less. Though he missed Sundowns' important 2-1 win over Free State Stars at the Charles Mopeli last night, Modise will once again hope for an inspiring performance, but does reveal that in the past couple of games he has been performing out of his skin.
“I must say that I’m in something of a purple patch, my best form for a long while. It’s like a new lease of life and I’m enjoying every minute out on the park. The same people – both from the media and generally – have asked me what it is that has helped me rediscover my form. It’s simple; I work hard during the week. Actually, I work harder.
"This is what makes me a lot better prepared for matches. I am not a lazy player, and have never been. The other motivation that gets me going is simply that I want to be part of the team. I want to be in the starting line-up,” he reveals on his official website.
The former Bafana Bafana international also talks about the hunger within the team to do better in each game, saying, “Recent team selections have underlined the depth in our squad. We have had a few regular first-teamers sidelined by injury. These are players who have scored many goals between them so far. Those who have come in have done tremendously well and have not let the team down.
"I am really appreciative of the fact that coach Pitso Mosimane has given me and Suprise Moriri the opportunity to lead the team at this stage. We have not won major silver for years now and the pressure to end that extended drought is being felt by the entire squad. Actually, it is becoming difficult to play at home because of the pressure of expectation. But rest assured that there is a collective determination to win the title and we will give it a right go this season. We know that every point counts,” Modise concluded.
