PSL coaching legend and former Bafana Bafana mentor, Ted Dumitru, believes that Brazil and Argentina are the teams to watch at the upcoming 2014 World Cup.
The tournament is due to get underway on June 12 when hosts, Brazil, take on Croatia in Sao Paulo. However, while Dumitru believes Brazil are the favourites to win on home soil, he thinks that Argentina are planning a special tactical surprise for the competition.
The White and Sky Blue will play their first game against Bosnia on June 15 in Group F.
Dumitru said, “The combination of the climate and the attitude of the home fans – everything is constructed to help Brazil win. They may not be the best team but with that support, I see them as the number one favourite.”
The Romanian added, “Look, I’ve read a few things coming from Argentina. They are preparing a big surprise! Lionel Messi as a factor is doing extremely well to motivate everybody in that squad. They are going to introduce some new tactics. I would say they are the hidden contender for the title.”
The experienced coach, who has guided Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, concluded that Ghana would be Africa's strongest side at the tournament, “For the African teams, I am very impressed by Ghana. Their mobility and skill is very good. The Black Stars are going to be the team to watch from Africa.”
