Former Kaizer Chiefs PSL-winning coach, Ted Dumitru, explains why he thinks the Amakhosi are different to other clubs in the Absa Premiership.
Speaking to Soccer Laduma in the edition, 964, the former Bafana Bafana mentor also highlighted some of the current challenges facing coach, Steve Komphela at the moment.
“There’s a huge, huge, huge importance attached to this club by many millions of people not only on the results but the quality of play. I think Steve is faced with that challenge - to produce both.”
"When you go to any other club, the owner will say, “Hey, listen, I don’t care too much about how you play, just get me the points,” the 76-year-old said.
Dumitru is one of few coaches to have led the 'big three' in South Africa, having being at the helm of Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates during his 40-year coaching tenure.
Master Ted as he is known in the local fraternity, revealed the expectations of a coach at one of the big three teams in the PSL.
“There are two pillars of success at these clubs. One, you have to have quality players, especially young ones.
“Secondly, you need a training regime that embraces the philosophy of the club, which is skilful football, right combinations and mobility. If you put that package together, the job is done,” he told Soccer Laduma.
