Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Ted Dumitru, believes that the Brazilians team of the 1990s had more ability than the current crop.

Dumitru was in charge of Downs for a highly successful spell from 1997 to 1999, in which during that time the Brazilians lifted the league trophy twice as well as a Nedbank Cup and a Rothmans Cup.
Many in the football fraternity have been drawing comparisons between Dumitru’s side and Pitso Mosimane’s current side, and the former Downs manager has had his say on the matter.
“The main similarity between the successful squad I coached and Pitso’s team is the consistency they are starting to show with regards to team selection,” Dumitru told Soccer Laduma.
“My team was very consistent in performances and results and this current Sundowns team is showing great potential to emulate those past successes. Other than that, there are mostly differences between the two teams.
“If you look at players like Alex Bapela, Roger Feutmba, Joel Masilela and others, I still say all the players of that era had more technical prowess and more of an ability to improvise than players of today.”
