Agent Backs Ex- Bafana Star For PSL Return

The agent of former Bafana Bafana defender Tebogo Moerane feels his client still has what it takes to compete in the DStv Premiership.

Moerane, who can play both as a left back and a winger, was last on the books of Real Kings in the GladAfrica Championship, although the club’s status has now been acquired by Andile Mpisane and renamed Royal AM.

After spending some time in the football wilderness, the player spent time training with the now-defunct Highlands Park in February this year, although he failed to convince coach Owen da Gama and his technical team at the time.

Despite the failed attempt the player’s representative, Eldon Smith, says the player still has a lot to offer in the country’s elite league.

“Based on the current standard of football in the DStv Premiership, I definitely think Tebogo would add value to any club. He is a modern-day left back, good going forward, and a natural defender with sound technical ability to match. He has been rather unfortunate to not remain in the Premier League over the last few years, but at the age of 25 and (with) the experience he has, I know he still has a lot to offer. Let’s not forget he’s been in the national team set-up from U17 up, all the way to the senior team of Bafana,” said Smith.

“I’m hoping one of the clubs would give him a chance to prove himself. I wasn’t representing him when he played in the GladAfrica Championship, and I certainly feel he belongs in the top tier of South African football,” he added.

The 25-year-old, who went to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016, made his PSL debut in 2014 after coming through the youth ranks with the Clever Boys. However, he was unable to become a regular feature for coach Gavin Hunt and left the club in search of game-time elsewhere.

In 2017, the player, who is capped five time for Bafana Bafana, was snapped up by Baroka FC, despite interest from Bloemfontein Celtic at the time. Bizarrely, a month later, the player was then unveiled by AmaZulu FC. His stint with Usuthu was short-lived and he once again switched clubs, joining Black Leopards on a six-month deal.
