Despite seeing his side lose 2-1 to Orlando Pirates in his first game in charge, Ajax Cape Town interim coach Ian Taylor said he was happy with their showing.
Taylor has taken over from Muhsin Ertugal who departed from the club for personal reasons.
Taylor admitted his team made some costly errors on the night against the Buccaneers, but with a little bit of luck in the second half he felt his side could have and probably should have earned a share of the spoils.
“We started off quite poorly in the first half and played balls into areas where we put ourselves under pressure which resulted in the first goal,” said Taylor.
“But we have to learn those things, we have to learn where to play, but I was very happy with the second half.
“I felt that the boys showed a bit of character, they came back and I think we could have got a point at the end, we were a bit unlucky.”
Ajax definitely ended the match the better of the two sides and it came from a couple of substitute changes made by Taylor after Ajax went two goals behind.
“At 2-0 down what is the point of defending, so we tried to make some offensive changes, which we did, and immediately we put them under a bit of pressure,” added the interim coach.
“If we put them under a bit of pressure in the first half things could have been different.”
