Full Time: Moroka Swallows 1-1 Bloemfontein Celtic
Venue: Volkswagen Dobsonville Stadium
Date: 18 May 2013
Moroka Swallows looked to set to finish in the top eight after Felix Obada gave them the lead against Bloemfontein Celtic, but an early second half goal from Joel Mogorosi saw the Absa Premiership game at the Volkswagen Dobsonville Stadium finish 1-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The result leaves Celtic in fifth place on the table while Swallows dropped to ninth after both the University of Pretoria and Free State stars won their respective matches.
Mogorosi could have given Celtic an early advantage in the fourth minute when he headed over the bar from close range at the back post after a sublime cross by Lyle Lakay.
Five minutes later Katlego Mashego was inches from giving the Birds the lead when his free-kick from just outside the centre of the box brushed the top of the crossbar.
Mogorosi had an opportunity to atone for his earlier miss when he unleashed a powerful shot from 20yards out but Swallows keeper Greg Etafia was on hand to make the save.
In the 34th minute the home crowd was on its feet as Obada found the back of the net with a scorcher of a shot.
Four minutes into the second stanza, though and Celtic hit back when they found the equaliser in a rather fortune way. Lakay’s cross from the left flank was not dealt with by the Swallows defence and the ball bounced off Mogorosi chest and into the back of the net.
In the 65th minute of the match an unmarked Lakay should have scored when he headed wide of goal under no pressure.
In the dying minutes of the match, Roderick Mutuma had could have given his team the lead but he was denied by the crossbar with Etafia completely beaten by his shot on the edge of the box.
