Moroka Swallows have confirmed that they have extended Lerato Chabangu’s contract by a year, meaning that the Bafana Bafana midfielder’s contract will now end in June 2015.
Chabangu’s contract ends in June and there was speculation that several PSL teams, including Platinum Stars, but Swallows have moved quickly to tie him to another one year contract.
“Chabangu had a one-year extension option on his contract, which the club have now activated. This takes his deal through to the end of the 2014/15 season, although owner Leon Prins spoke this week about extending that deal further “read a statement on the official Swallows website.
Chabangu becomes the second Swallows player to see his contract being extended, after goalkeeper Greg Etafia was also tied to a new three-year contract.
Meanwhile, the future of defenders Luvhengo Mungomeni, Ashraf Hendricks and Gift Mapemba, as well as midfielder Giorgi Nergadze, remains uncertain.
The four players’ contracts are ending in June, and it’s unclear at this stage if they will remain with Swallows beyond the current season.
