Swallows FC have commented on reports that they could be reunited with their former player Lerato Chabangu.
The Birds have been on a signing spree, as they look to bolster their squad for the inaugural DStv Premiership campaign after winning promotion in the GladAfrica Championship.
So far, coach Brandon Truter’s team have signed 14 players, with playmaker Kamohelo Mahlatsi being the latest acquisition.
Over the last few weeks reports in local media have suggested that the Soweto outfit could be set for a reunion with Lerato ‘All you need is love’ Chabangu, who spent four glorious years with the club from 2011 to 2015 after joining them from Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 35-year-old was last on the books of ambitious outfit Baberwa FC, who compete in the ABC Motsepe League.
Speaking to the Siya crew, Swallows chairperson David Mogashoa shed some light on the club’s stance regarding the playmaker
“The coach has not mentioned Chabangu’s name, we are guided by the coach he gave us a long list of players he wants us to sign, which we have. We cannot just come in and say to the coach here is a player. So far Lerato Chabangu is not one of the players who have appeared on that list,” Mogashoa said.
Meanwhile, he added that The Birds are not quite done in the transfer market as yet.
“We are closing shop at 30 players, when the coach finished the GladAfrica Championship last season, he was left with 15 players and you know that you cannot compete with 15 players if you are to be taken seriously in the PSL. We don’t want to come to the DStv premiership and be embarrassed.
“Therefore, we have assembled a quality squad that can compete with any team in the PSL. The only areas we need strengthening is a right back and a central midfielder, then we are complete,” he concluded.
