Moroka Swallows coach Zeca Marques has slammed the media for the manner in which the local media has reported on Swallows’ practice games.
Marques’ comments follows the reports that Kaizer Chiefs handed Swallows a 6-0 drubbing in a friendly.
“That’s why I don’t want to play these kinds of games because you guys in the media like to sensationalize things. These are practice games which we, as coaches, use to test different combinations and to assess trialists,” said Marques
“Maybe to some people it is a big thing to win with a big score in a practice game, but I don’t really care about the score line. My only concern is whether or not we achieved what we set out to do in that game,” added Marques.
“We held Chiefs to a draw in an official game, but nothing much was reported about that. But as soon as we lost to them in a practice game, everyone is reporting about it. Some are even failing to report that I had rested my key players like Lefa Tsutsulupa and Siyabonga Nomvethe, and that I had three trialists in the team. It’s sad really,” continued the Swallows coach.
Meanwhile, as reported by the crew this week, Swallows have decided against signing midfielder Sheldon Lawrence, but Marques says that they will continue to assess the other two trialists.
Former Ajax Cape Town midfielder Luvuyo Memela and Portuguese midfielder Joao Pedro Henriques Neto are currently training with the Birds.
