Swallows FC chairman David Mogashoa has explained his decision to sack Brandon Truter and three others that formed part of his backroom staff when he’d backed the coach several days before Sunday’s impromptu decision.
Truter was sent packing along with assistant Simo Dladla, analyst Kamaal Sait and goalkeeper coach Johan Abselon with immediate effect!
The call was made a few hours after Swallows suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat at the hands of Kaizer Chiefs at the Dobsonville Stadium, a result that left the Dube Birds at the bottom of the DStv Premiership table with one win in 12 games.
“We did not take the decision lightly,” Mogashoa told the Siya crew.
“I think if you have a look at the results, the situation was becoming untenable – three goals in 12 matches. That is not the team we are with the kind of players in our squad. I will always back and support the coach wherever he goes next. But after the loss against Chiefs sunk us to the foot of the table, we had to make a drastic change. They say a wise man changes his mind and we believe this was the right call.”
The chairman admitted the Dube Birds are now fighting to stay in the topflight and the incoming coach would have to immediately steady the ship using the tight December schedule to help Swallows claw their way up the table.
Mogashoa’s statement on Sunday confirmed the imminent search of a new coach, but it’s unlikely Swallows would have made an appointment by the time they host Maritzburg United this weekend in Soweto.
