SuperSport Positive Despite Trophyless Season

SuperSport United have endured a season in which the club failed to lift any silverware, despite their shortcomings, the club’s veteran defender Bongani Khumalo has taken positives from their campaign.

By their own high standards, SuperSport’s season in which they finished in fifth position on the log standings has been less than flattering for coach Kaitano Tembo and his men.

However, according to Khumalo, it is not all doom and gloom, especially with the club’s belief in youth paying dividends, with the likes of Keenan Phillips, Jesse Donn and Gampani Lungu all staking their claim this season.

“I think it’s been positive, with all the challenges we faced, we still managed to blood in some raw youngsters, we’ve given good game-time to a lot of young players and I don’t think many clubs at this level can say that same thing," Khumalo told the Siya crew.

"I think it just goes to show how much the club is willing to invest in young players because this is where I started my professional trade and this is where I was given a chance and I did pay my school fees but certainly with the support of the club and the great players that I was surrounded by at the club I’ve managed to grow and have what I’d like to think has been a decent career, so I hope that for these young players as well, they’ve used this year to get a taste of what the highest level requires and the demands are written and they can just get stronger and stronger for the club and for themselves,” he added.

The veteran also shed some light on his future at the club, revealing that he plans to continue playing for another season, although he is yet to open talks with the club regarding his contract which expires at the end of June.
