Mahlangu For New SuperSport Deal
SuperSport United are expected to offer Jabu Mahlangu a new contract.
Affectionately known as 'Shuffle' in football circles, Mahlangu made a surprise return to professional football when he joined Matsatsantsa in the second half of the 2013/14 season.
The skilful player signed a short-term deal with the Tshwane-based outfit in March. He made one start and two substitute appearances in the league for Cavin Johnson’s side before picking up an injury.
Mahlangu missed the last two games of the season due to an injury. A source close to the player told the Siya crew that plans are in place for Mahlangu to extend his stay with the club for another season.
“It seems like the club is keen to renew Shuffle’s contract. They want him for another season as a player. It’s a matter of discussing the terms and everything, but they are happy with him. He was just unfortunate with an injury in the last two games of the season. The club is happy with his contribution to the team and are willing to give him another chance."
"They are happy with him, on and off the field. Jabu is looking forward to continue working for SuperSport United,” said the source.
The former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates player had initially announced his retirement from professional football after playing for FC Cape Town in the NFD in 2012.
He impressed Johnson and his technical team after spending months training with United. SuperSport had an option to extend Mahlangu’s contract for another year when the club signed him on a short-term deal.
