SuperSport United have been knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup after a 3-1 loss to Egyptian side ENPPI at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
The day started well for Matsatsantsa when George Maluleka put them in front in the match and the tie after a goalless draw a fortnight ago, but poor defending saw the north Africans complete a comfortable win.
South African sides have had a notoriously lackadaisical attitude to CAF competitions in the past, but SuperSport has talked up their determination to do well this year.
But they have failed to reach the playoff stage and can have no complaints after being second best in both legs of the tie against ENPPI.
Maluleka had them in front on 10 minutes though with a fantastic strike from just outside the box that flew into the top corner.
But the tie turned on two goals in as many minutes for the visitors just before halftime and Ivorian forward Vincent die Foneye got them both.
The first came after SuperSport failed to clear a corner and the striker spun on the ball and shot home.
He got his second when the home side were again ponderous in clearing the ball and Die Foneye side-footed past a helpless Ronwen Williams in the SuperSport goal.
Ahmed Omran netted a third for the visitors with another excellent shot from outside the box.
From then on the visitors soaked up the pressure, with SuperSport needing to score three times to win. They were reduced to long-range shots at goal and the Egyptians held on comfortably for the win.
