SuperSport Held By Maritzburg

Absa Premiership

Result: SS United 0-0 Maritzburg

Date: 23 April 2013

Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium

Both SuperSport United and Maritzburg United missed the opportunity to climb up the Absa Premiership table as they played out a 0-0 draw at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday.

The game saw a very early chance for Bradley Grobler but from that point onwards there were very few meaningful first half chances.

The former Goztepe striker slid the ball wide from a tight angle after being played in behind the defence almost immediately from kick off.

The opportunities then dried up following that missed chance and most of the play took place in the centre of the park

In the 27th minute Edwin Gyimah forced Shu-Aib Walters into a save and later SuperSport saw a pair of good free kick opportunities wasted by Sameegh Doutie and Kermit Erasmus respectively.

With the first half winding down Cuthbert Malajila went on a great run but the Zimbabwean international’s effort was agonisingly wide.

Ten minutes into the second period Buckley hoisted the ball well over with his right foot after the defence backed off and allowed him to shoot.

At the other end Doutie scampered down the wing and delivered a low cross that the on-rushing Grobler was unable to turn home.

Sheppard had the next chance but fired his free kick across the face of goal as Ronwen Williams watched it go wide of his left hand post.

In the 80th minute the ball fell to Grobler in the box but Mario Booysen put his body on the line to get in the way of the striker’s effort.

Zuma almost had the chance to grab the win as Grobler headed down to him and his shot on the volley was blocked by Booysen.

In stoppage time the lively Doutie then showed quick feet to free substitute Jabu Maluleke but he shot wide after creating space from himself.

SuperSport: Williams, Kekana, Fransman, Gyimah, Mdledle, Gabonamong, Maluleka (Cale 71’), Doutie, Erasmus (Maluleke 71’), Sithole (Zuma 45’), Grobler.

Maritzburg: Walters, Petersen, Awal, M.Booysen, Matuka, Cloete, Morton, Buckely, Sheppard, Zulu (Mandaza 62’), Malajila (Smeekes 87’).
