SuperSport Drop First Points

Absa Premiership

Result: Aces 1-1 SuperSport

Date: 15 September 2013

Venue: Mbombela Stadium

SuperSport United dropped their first points of the 2013/14 Absa Premiership season after playing to a 1-1 draw against MP Black Aces at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

United had to come from a goal behind to earn a share of the spoils in a game where Aces were largely the better team.

The first 45 saw the home side control the match as they outplayed SuperSport in most areas of the park.

Aces started the match the better of the two teams and gained the ascendancy early on when a header from Eduardo Ferreira went narrowly over the crossbar at a corner-kick in the seventh minute.

Ten minutes later and Mabhuti Khenyeza was in the thick of the action testing the hands of Rowen Fernandez with a stinging drive.

SuperSport’s only real chance of the half fell to Bradley Grobler in the 28th minute, but he saw his effort well saved by Bafana Nhlapo.

Thereafter, Aces continued to dictate terms and finally made their pressure pay just before the break as Khenyeza handed the home side the lead with a clinical finish, 1-0.

The second 45 saw SuperSport trying to fight their way back into the game, but they struggled to create clear openings on goal.

Finally, in the 71st minute they found some leeway as Thuso Phala met a Sameegh Doutie corner-kick, but his header went wide of the target.

Seven minutes later, though, and United did find some reward for their hard work as David Mathebula headed the equaliser after latching onto a Mame Niang cross, 1-1.

Neither team could find the winning goal as the teams shared the spoils.
