SuperSport United take on Ajax Cape Town this weekend as they look to take a step closer to winning their first Telkom Knockout trophy.
Matsatsantsa have twice failed at the final hurdle when it comes to the South African League Cup, losing in consecutive years, 2004 and 2005, when it was known as the Coca Cola Cup.
The trophy is the only one of Mzansi’s big four (Telkom Knockout, Absa Premiership, MTN8 and Nedbank Cup) that the Pretoria-based side are yet to get their hands on, and this year they are hoping to change that.
Their club captain, Thabo September, says that it’s going to be a tough game against Ajax but that they’re determined to win the trophy.
Speaking to the Siya crew he said, “Ajax are representing the whole of Cape Town, they’re the only team from there now, so they’ll want to do well. It should be a good game but we want to win this cup and to do that we have to win this game.”
Cavin Johnson’s men take on Ajax at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday afternoon as they attempt to make it through to the next round of the competition.
Last season saw SuperSport crash out in the semifinals of the tournament after a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns.
