Mamelodi Sundowns have exercised their one-year option on goalkeeper, Thela Ngobeni. The 24-year-old shot-stopper joined the Brazilians earlier this year after spending a period clubless, following his release from Kaizer Chiefs.
Now, despite having not featured for Sundowns since joining their ranks, the club are said to have been impressed with what they have seen from the goalkeeper and opted to keep him at the club for at least another year.
The crew recently reported that veteran goalkeeper, Calvin Marlin, would be leaving the club at the end of his contract next month, with Ngobeni likely to fight it out with Wayne Sandilands and new signing, Belgian keeper Glenn Verbauwhede, for the spot between the sticks.
One of the other goalkeepers on the club’s books, Denis Onyango, also looks set for an exit, with indications that Chippa United are keeping an eye on him.
Even though the club have three highly rated goalkeepers tied down ahead of their 2013/2014 campaign, there has been speculation that they may launch a bid to land Free State Stars’ Zambian international, Kennedy Mweene.
