Following his recovery from injury, Mamelodi Sundowns defender Tebogo Langerman returned to the starting line up in Pitso Mosimane’s team in the league game against Wits.
It was the player’s third start since the beginning of the 2013/14 campaign. While Langerman was making his way back to full fitness, he was replaced by Punch Masenamela, who played at left-back in the game against Ajax Cape Town.
Soccer-Laduma takes a look at the defensive stats which compare the two players' performances in the 2012/13 season.
Langerman: Tackles 2.22, Interceptions 11.17, Blocks 0.91, Clearances 2.39, Fouls 0.87, Fouls (Defensive 3rd) 0.35, Possession won 14.3, Possession gained 14.52, Possession lost 23.65, Corners conceded 0.17 and Crosses defended 0.83.
Masenamela: Tackles 2.64, Interceptions 13. 82, Blocks 0.91, Clearances 3.27, Fouls 1.18, Fouls (Defensive 3rd) 0.64, Possession won 17.36, Possession gained 17.82, Possession lost 21.82, Corners conceded 0.45 and Crosses defended 0.73.
With both players capable of doing the job for Sundowns, Mosimane and his technical team will hope that Langerman and Masenamela remain injury-free and so keep the healthy competition for the team’s left side of defence going for the entire season.
