Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has invited young goalkeeper Vusi Maseko to train with the club.
The 18-year-old shot-stopper caught the eye of the former Bafana Bafana mentor while on duty for Meadowlands Academy. The keeper has been nurtured at the Gauteng-based academy under the guidance of former Orlando Pirates player Dira Laka.
Laka confirmed with the Siya crew that a potential move to the Chloorkop-based outfit is on the cards for the young goal minder.
“We played in this year’s Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge. We reached the knockout stages of the tournament. It happened that Pitso Mosimane was among the people that watched the games. After the game they approached me with a request that they wanted to assess the player. So, the boy went there. He has been there since last week. I’m not sure what the situation is.
“I don’t know if they want him for the first team or their development. But I asked the boy about his first day at the club and he told me that at first he was nervous about seeing all the big name players around him.
“At this stage they won’t tell us if they want him for the senior team or the development. But I’m just hoping for the best for the player. It’s up to them (Sundowns) what they want to do with the player as long as it will mean progress for our club,” said Laka.
Laka’s academy is expected to produce a number of quality players from their development programme. The academy receives financial assistance from Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana midfielder, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, for their daily operations.
