Mamelodi Sundowns’ new Ghanaian defender, Rashid Sumaila, says that he is looking forward to beginning life at Chloorkop.
The Siya crew reported back in April that the 20-year-old had completed his move to Sundowns from Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko, although up until now there has been no official confirmation from his new employers.
The Brazilians have now confirmed on their official website that the defender signed a five-year contract with the club earlier this year, but that it was agreed that he would remain with Kotoko until the end of their season.
The youngster, speaking to Downs’ official website, said, “I am very happy to have signed for Sundowns. This is a big club, the facilities here are good, and the reception has been great.
“I am ready to come out here and earn my place. From Lesotho, I will be going back to Ghana, then I return to my new home to join up with the rest of my new team-mates on the 24th. Of course, we will be working to make the club successful, and I am looking to delivering for the supporters of Mamelodi Sundowns.”
Sumaila has represented his country at U20, U23 and senior level, despite his young age, and is thought to be one of the brightest young prospects in Ghanaian football.
