Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rashid Sumaila has been selected for Ghana’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against Egypt in Kumasi.
Kwesi Appiah has named a strong squad which he hopes will be able to overcome the Pharaohs over two legs and clinch a spot in next year’s World Cup in Brazil. The highly-rated Sumaila, who has been solid at the back for Mamelodi Sundowns alongside Alje Schut, keeps his place in the team and will be looking to help his country qualify for the Brazil showpiece.
He was substituted in the first half of the Black Stars’ friendly match against Japan last month due to injury, after which they went on to concede three goals and lose 3-1.
Sumaila signed a five-year deal with Downs before the start of the season and is looking to make a name for himself in South Africa.
