Strikers Linked With Misfiring Pirates

Orlando Pirates missed the opportunity to make some serious headway in the league when they squandered several goalscoring opportunities in their most recent league fixture against Golden Arrows ending the tie in a goalless draw.

The Buccaneers have now failed to win a league match in the five league games.

Since the departure of their former Zimbabwean hitman Tendai Ndoro who joined Saudi Arabian outfit Al Faisaly in August, the Buccaneers have only converted eight goals in 11 league games. Ndroro who finished the 2016/17 campaign with 12 league goals has left a significant void in Bucs’ attack and his departure has meant that Thamsanaqa Gabuza has had to step up as the main centre forward. However, the 30-year-old striker has only netted three of the goals Pirates have scored this season.

Bucs striking roaster also comprises of Thabiso Kutumela, Ayanda Nkosi, the recently signed Justin Shonga and the newly promoted Lyle Foster all who are yet to find the back of the net this season.

With such low returns from his target men in the 11 league games played so far this season, Coach Milutin Sredojevic may look to the January transfer period to rope in a more prolific striker. The Siya crew has reported that the Soweto giants have already been linked to several strikers in the upcoming January transfer period.

The crew also reported that the Soweto giants are reportedly keeping close tabs on Moeketsi Sekola who is currently with Chippa United on a deal from Highlands Park. The 28-year-old has already scored twice for the Chilli Boys in seven league starts.

Cuthbert Malajila is another name that has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Ndoro as the Zimbabwean has fallen down the pecking order in Pitso Mosimane’s star-studded Mamelodi Sundowns team.

Sources have revealed that the Parktown-based club has already finalised its transfer list of players set to leave the club as well as the players who are on the wish list.

Pirates’ next league encounter will be against Bloemfontein Celtic and the strikers will need t maximise in front of goal.
