Former Bafana Bafana captain Steven Pienaar has revealed why his potential move to Orlando Pirates, the team he supported since he was a kid, failed to materialise after being linked to the club for several weeks.
In June this year, the Siya crew broke the news that Pienaar was in talks with Pirates’ chairman, Irvin Khoza and this subsequently caused excitement around the entire South African football fraternity.

However, after weeks of being linked to the Bucs, the Siya crew got in touch with the 34-year-old to find out exactly what the talks were about between him and the Soweto giants’ chairman.
“There was nothing about contracts. We just had a normal discussion, talking about football in general. I said to him that… (laughs) …obviously he knows that I am a Pirates supporter, so he just gave me some inside information about the club and stuff,” Pienaar told the Siya crew.
“It’s always good to hear it from the person who runs the club. There basically wasn’t any talk about contracts… nothing. He just said to me that he would like to me to join the club if I made up my mind and that was it, basically,” he added.
