Komphela: You Can’t Buy That In A Supermarket
Steve Komphela Was Happy With Kaizer Chiefs' Win
Steve Komphela says that ‘Christmas came early’ for Kaizer Chiefs’ supporters following the Amakhosi’s 1-0 victory over Platinum Stars at the weekend.
Siphiwe Tshabalala scored the goal that brought an end to Chiefs’ five-game winless streak in the Absa Premiership, and they start this week in third place going into their final game of 2017.
“This is one for our supporters,” Komphela told Chiefs’ official website. “We will record this as Christmas came early for our loyal supporters.
“We gain confidence from this win, although we are not playing as fluent as we should, and we didn’t perform well in the first half, but a win is a win.”
Komphela also praised the experience of his older players as they helped shape the win over Dikwena, saying, “Itumeleng Khune and Siphiwe Tshabalala have loads of experience and that’s something you can’t buy in a supermarket. It was a good decision to start with Bernard Parker and ‘Shabba’ on the bench, as they made an immediate impact after coming on in the second half.
“Shabba provided us with options. Don’t forget as well that we still have to continuously adjust as we have a few important players out injured. Luckily, these are now getting close to full fitness, which will give us a nice headache when it comes to team selection… We will take this win to our next game.”
While there is a slim chance, Chiefs do still have a mathematical chance of ending the year on top of the league if other results manage to go their way.
Their final game is against Ajax Cape Town this coming weekend.
