Komphela: Giving Up Is Not An Option!
Steve Komphela has refused to rule Kaizer Chiefs out of the Absa Premiership title race, despite their 3-2 loss to league leaders, Cape Town City.
The Amakhosi looked to be leaving the Mother City with a point on Tuesday evening as they try to keep their title hopes alive, however a late goal from Judas Moseamedi saw them return to Gauteng with nothing.
Chiefs are now fourth in the table behind City, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits, and have currently played two more games than Masandawana and the Clever Boys.
Speaking after the game, Komphela praised Eric Tinkler and his work with the Citizens, saying, “The match was very exciting to watch. It was a high-octane match. Check the goals, they were clinical. It was an interesting match. I am saddened that we lost this match. We will take the positives though and work on our shortfalls for the next game.
“Eric admitted that we could have beaten them. That’s gentlemanly from him. He has done wonders with this team and deserves the praise. We went full swing in the second half. We dominated the first half but still didn’t sit back. We wanted to win this match.”
Discussing the club’s title ambitions, he said, “Giving up is not an option. We will keep fighting until the end.”
Meanwhile, on Siphiwe Tshabalala’s fantastic – but ultimately consolation – goal, his coach said, “Shabba’s (Siphiwe Tshabalala) goal was top class stuff… That’s for replays and the shelves. Look at the goals that we scored, they were from inside the box, well worked out and exquisite material.”
Chiefs’ next game sees them face SuperSport United on Saturday evening.
