Komphela: Collecting A Point Is Huge
Steve Komphela says that a point against AmaZulu is huge given the competitiveness of the Absa Premiership this season.
The Amakhosi missed out on the chance to move up to second as they drew 0-0 with Usuthu in Durban on Wednesday, remaining sixth with just three wins from 11 games.
Chiefs have dominated AmaZulu in recent years but were lucky to escape with even a point from King Zwelithini Stadium as the hosts missed a penalty that could have given them all three.
Komphela, who is under increasing pressure after two and a half trophyless seasons, believes that their opposition’s pressing gameplan worked perfectly.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said, “They played a pressing game… They didn’t give us space to play our normal game, which meant that we didn’t get the chance to express ourselves. The conditions didn’t make it easy as well.
“We had our chances, but we did not take them so we will take this draw. Cavin Johnson is a fine coach and he had a good game plan. They hassled us, especially in midfield. One has to admire their competitive spirit.
“The league is tight this season. Collecting a point is huge given the competitiveness of the league this season. AmaZulu stood their ground. Many teams play to a draw because there’s so much at stake.”
Chiefs’ next game sees them face Free State Stars as they look to get back to winning ways.
