Komphela: Any Draw Is A Loss For Chiefs

Steve Komphela insists that when Kaizer Chiefs don’t leave with three points it feels like a defeat.

The Amakhosi are now in fourth place and seven points behind Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the Absa Premiership table, with their title aspirations being dented over the weekend as they dropped points from a winning position to draw 1-1 with Bidvest Wits.

Ryan Moon had given Chiefs the lead in the first half as he scored with his head once again, but Lehlohonolo Majoro came back to haunt his former team with a header of his own.

Now, as the Glamour Boys prepare for Nedbank Cup action, Komphela admits that they’re not where they want to be.

Speaking after the Wits encounter, he said, “Any match drawn at Chiefs is a loss. We want to win almost all the matches. In fact, that we lost three points feels worse than even a loss. We want three points. It’s at a time where every point is crucial. Could we have gotten three points here? Yes, we should have had three.

“We wanted to make the gap five points. We have to keep fighting, there’s lots of matches to go to make it five. We missed an opportunity to make it five. It’s seven, it’s okay, let’s keep going and see. But we regret that we didn’t win this one.”

Chiefs tackle Golden Arrows in the Nedbank Cup this weekend, a tournament that could be Komphela’s last chance at silverware given the gap between them and Masandawana.
