Komphela Reveals What He Saw From Chiefs’ Scorer Before The Corner

Steve Komphela was happy to see Teenage Hadebe on the scoresheet for Kaizer Chiefs last night and has revealed why he wasn’t surprised to see it happen.

The Amakhosi picked up a vital win over Free State Stars last night as the Zimbabwean got on the end of a Siphiwe Tshabalala cross to snatch victory, moving the Glamour Boys up into third place on the Absa Premiership table.

Hadebe followed in the footsteps of Erick Mathoho after his header secured a Nedbank Cup win over Baroka, and Komphela is pleased that his side is utilising their set pieces properly.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Chiefs’ head coach said, “About the goal, it is great to have players that can give you a goal at set pieces. We continued to knock on the door of the Free State Stars defence and it eventually opened. I saw Teenage praying before the corner was taken. I was not surprised when he scored. We wanted to win the game.

"We are happy with this win. It wasn’t easy but we got what we wanted, the three points. We are going back to prepare for Chippa United. We want to accumulate as many points as possible.”

After last night’s win it means that 10 of Chiefs’ 14 wins in all competitions this season have been by a single goal, and in their 31 matches, they’ve only scored more than once on eight occasions – a worrying stat for Komphela going into the title run-in.

The Amakhosi’s next game sees them face Chippa on Saturday afternoon at 15h00.
