Komphela Has Dropped 39 Points From Winning Positions
Steve Komphela's Poor Record From Winning Positions
Having taken the lead on four occasions this season, Steve Komphela’s Kaizer Chiefs have dropped four points from that position so far this season.
In their six league games played this season, Chiefs took the lead in four of the fixtures, against Bloemfontein Celtic, Cape Town City, Bidvest Wits and Maritzburg United, but only came away with all three points against Fadlu Davids’ and Benni McCarthy’s charges. These incidents are not isolated to this season only.
Having taken the lead in 20 matches in the 2016/17 season, Chiefs only saw out the game with their lead in tact in 13 of their games, drawing five and losing two. Therefore, out of those 20 games, where there were 60 points on offer, Chiefs only managed to come away with 44, meaning that they dropped 14 points from winning positions. In contrast, champions Bidvest Wits dropped just six points from winning positions last season.
In addition to this, in Komphela’s first season in charge, in the 2015/16 season, he had 54 points on offer when taking the lead, from which he won just 33, and dropped 21.
In total, Komphela’s two and a bit seasons with the Naturena-based club, he has seen his team take the lead 42 times and has dropped a staggering 39 points from the 126 on offer. Komphela will need to address his team’s failure to hold out for the win if he is to turn the team into champions.
