Komphela has been under scrutiny of late given Chiefs lack of silverware since his arrival and the club’s poor start to the 2017/18 campaign in the league and MTN8.
The Amakhosi, who won two league titles in three years prior to Komphela’s appointment, have now gone two seasons without a single trophy, and have finished outside the top three for the past two campaigns.
With some fans calling for his head, the Siya crew decided to look at the four coaches that preceded Komphela over the last 10 years to see who has been the club’s most successful leader over the last decade.
Points Per Game Since July 2007:
Komphela – 1.56 – 97 points in 62 games
Baxter – 2.10 – 189 points in 90 games
Khuse & Khumalo – 1.43 – 10 points in 7 games
Vermezovic – 1.81 – 150 points in 83 games
Ertugral – 1.53 – 90 points in 59 games
Baxter, now with Bafana Bafana, was the longest-serving coach that the club has had in recent memory, however, Komphela could match his time in charge if he does manage to turn things around and see out this season.
Chiefs have won just one of their last 10 games in all competitions stretching back to 2016/17, and nine in 21 over the course of 2017 so far.
