Komphela Regrets Celtic Draw, Loss Of Points

Kaizer Chiefs’ Steve Komphela says that he regrets not taking the opportunity to close the gap on Mamelodi Sundowns after the Amakhosi’s disappointing home draw with Bloemfontein Celtic.
With Masandawana failing to secure maximum points against both Free State Stars and SuperSport United last week, the Glamour Boys were handed a big opportunity to improve their Absa Premiership title credentials against Siwelele on Saturday.
However, Komphela’s team were once again unable to find the back of the net, and they ended up dropping to third place behind Orlando Pirates by the time the weekend was over, and are still five points behind the league leaders.
Speaking about the game, Chiefs’ head coach admitted that failing to score was upsetting, saying that it is a night that he will regret.
He told the club’s official website, “We had so many attempts on goal, we should have scored at least one. You live to regret a night like this.
“We could have closed the gap to Sundowns… We discussed the result at half-time, just to highlight the need to get the three points. We need to draw lessons from this loss of two points.”
Now though, Komphela is turning his head to this week’s Soweto Derby, which – given the league positions – could prove to be the most important clash between the Soweto giants in recent years.
He said, “We have a big week ahead of us. The Soweto Derby will be a defining game. I hope that we will come out as lions and tigers. I foresee sparks. It will be a great match to watch.”
Chiefs have scored just 19 goals all season so far, with only two clubs – Celtic & Platinum Stars – having scored less.
