Komphela Explains Benching Castro & Ntshangase

Steve Komphela Has Defended His Selection At Kaizer Chiefs

By Soccer Laduma - Feb 05, 2018 12:58 PM
Steve Komphela says that he is tempted to start new signings, Leonardo Castro and Siphelele Ntshangase, but admits that it’s a selection problem for him.

Neither player has been handed a start for the Amakhosi yet following their moves from Mamelodi Sundowns and Baroka respectively, despite the duo having impressed during their cameo appearances from the bench so far.

Gustavo Paez was once again named ahead of Castro in the 1-1 draw with Bidvest Wits, while Ryan Moon continued his scoring form by getting his third goal in four games.

With Chiefs now seven points behind Mamelodi Sundowns, the Nedbank Cup looks to be their last chance of silverware this season, and he explained that he could switch things up as they take on Golden Arrows this weekend.

Speaking to the media he said, "You are always tempted (to start with Castro and Ntshangase), but then again if you start Castro, do you put Moon outside, who scored. Do you start with Ntshangase and leave Shabba outside? That's another dynamic. It depends on the game itself.

"Castro and Ntshangase's contributions are very clear. They are there and can even play more minutes than when they arrived, but then again, do you play two number 10's - Shabba and Ntshangase - then sacrifice one striker? It's another thing.”

Meanwhile, on the topic of Paez’s form – he hasn’t scored in the Absa Premiership since September – Komphela said, “It's all about confidence for Paez. We need to give him confidence by giving him service, playing to his strength. The fact that we have paired him with Moon should give him confidence, but the biggest confidence will come from him, by scoring goals.”

Only two teams, Bidvest Wits and Platinum Stars, have scored fewer goals than Kaizer Chiefs this season, with the Amakhosi only finding the back of the net on 18 occasions.

I dont why he does'nt bench maluleka and play Ntshangase, or play 4 3 3 formation not le 5-4-1.

@amdunyelwa718 Your logical suggestion does not make sense in Steven's mind because HE IS SCARED OF ATTACKING AND OBSESSED WITH DEFENDING.

Ntshangase must start contributing when given a chance. Pule Ekstein has more impact than Ntshangase

Paez is very good guy for Zebras. He run fast and overtakes poles. That is good in Zebras standard.

Khompela is such a fool . The man to be sacrificed is Maluleka but even Shabba is now not suited to play 90 minutes

Tshabalala is not a natural number10, he is a winger so why don’t you put him in his place coz he is not producing a lot while you can put Castro for Paez and Zuma for Maluleka.
